EECA Funding - Insulation,
home heating and heat pump water heaters
In the 2009 budget the Government announced that it would
spend $323 million in the next four years to fit homes built
before 2000 with insulation and clean heating. This includes
ceiling and floor insulation but does not extend to walls.
Home owners will be eligible for a grant of up to $1800
($1300 for insulation and $500 heating). The funding covers up to 33% of the total
cost (including GST). If you have a Community Services Card,
you can get funding for up to 60% of the insulation cost and
$1200 towards heating. This also applies to landlords
with tenants who hold a Community Services Card.
This programme has now been extended to cover heat pump
water heaters, with grants of up to $575 towards the cost
including installation.
Grants or loans of up to $1000 are also available in some
circumstances to help pay for approved solar water
heating systems.
The funding programme is being run by
EECA (Energy
Efficiency and Conservation Authority).
Financing
The Retrofit Your Home initiative allows homeowners to
access up to $5000 to pay for insulation, clean heating,
ventilation, drainage and water efficiency measures.
Homeowners then repay the money through their rates bill.
Once you have applied for the scheme, the council wil
arrange for an assessment of your home with improvement
recommendations and will give you a list of approved
suppliers.
At present this is being launched in west Auckland and funds
will be available until July 2011. See
www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz for more information,
criteria and application forms.
